Nestled on the highest peak, right in the middle of Santorini, the village of Pyrgos offers much more that an incredible view of the entire island: it is an impressive place of incredible beauty, vibrant throughout the year and offering many things to see, do and taste.

During medieval times, Pyrgos was a well-constructed and lively community, perched on the foot of Saint Ilias' mountain and built within one of the island's 'casteli', meaning the towers that used to dominate the island's scenery and indicate the presence of a mighty lord. This village played an important role in the island's prosperity, it even used to be Santorini's capital until the 1800s. With many of the relics of its glorious past still visible and accessible around the village to this day, Pyrgos was declared a protected UNESCO site in 1995.
